Ain’t No Sunshine When They’re Gone

Hey Sunshine. Have you ever seen the look on a child’s face when they are defeated? Not like a loss at a sports game, but that look they get when they have no Hope? I encountered that recently and I tell you truly that I cried for quite a while with the thought of that child on my heart.

See, they weren’t getting it. They were in a struggle. Not because they weren’t trying but because some children are just better at some things than others. And a parent came along with a harsh criticism just as I had begun to reach them. Then total shutdown. Had they heard that before? I’m sure they had.  We as adults have to actually make the effort to see within them what they can do. Encourage their strengths so they aren’t trying to measure their success only by their weaknesses.

Albert Einstein once said “Everyone is a Genius. Judge a Fish by its ability to climb a tree and it will spend it’s lifetime thinking it is stupid.” How true. Prayers us for that child, more prayers up for that parent.

“And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4
